Then spake Arjuna, unto Krishna, the Blessed Lord, saying:

"O Blessed Lord, inform me, I pray thee, regarding the nature of Sannyasa, or the Abstaining from Action, on the one hand; and Tyaga, or the Renunciation of the Fruits of Action, on the other hand. Pray tell me, O Lord, of the true principle of each and also of the differences and distinction between these two.

Krishna: 'The Sages have told us that the principle of Sannyasa, or Abstaining from Action, lieth in the forsaking of all Action which hath a desired object; and that the principle of Tyaga, or Renunciation of Fruits of Action, lieth in the forsaking of all the Fruits of every Action. Notest thou this subtle distinction, O Prince? Then, also, have certain teachers informed us that Actions are to be forsaken as evil, yea, even as evil as crimes.
