as knowledge becomes consciously universal. The dialectic usage which Paul gave to his religious teachings has an attraction for those who like an intellectual working out of religious principles. As is every great leader, so Paul was a many-sided character. Some of these characteristics have been pushed to an unwise extreme; have been given an emphasis which have distorted Paul's experience and teaching; but for Paul himself, these tendencies were all protected by the intensity of his integrity to the work of giving the message of Jesus to the world.

Our debt to Paul is beyond measure. He was an example of the highest type of religious enfoldment from dogmatic bondage and artificial restraint to complete religious freedom.

The Jews, in the time of Moses, were in the position of the Gentiles of this day; they had no law; sin, transgression, implies law. Paul is explaining the Divine method of their justification by faith and works as he sees it exemplified in David and Abraham.
