Leviticus and Numbers

THE BOOK OF LEVITICUS.


Describes the ceremonial law.

Sacrifices. There were two kinds of sacrifices; one from the fruit of the earth, supposed to be made by one who did not need repentance. The other was a living animal and was always a confession of sin.

The Passover was the first sacrament instituted. A lamb without blemish was taken, the blood scattered and the flesh eaten with great joy. This was the last feast made in Egypt; henceforth they were to depend upon God for their food.


" Sacrifice " --- making sacred. We have thought sacrifice meant self-denial, but it is not so.

Lev. 1:3, --- Sacrifice Burnt offering; of cattle.
Lev. 2, --- Sacrifice Meal; of herb.
Lev. 3, --- Sacrifice Peace; of animals.
Lev. 4, --- Sacrifice Sin;of bullocks.
Lev. 5, --- Sacrifice Trespass sin that is known.
