other eleven disciples were of Galilee, this perhaps was the cause of the estrangement between him and and the others. Judaeans had a tendency to look down on Galileans.

The life of Judas previous to his call is hidden from us. (In all the lists in the Gospels his name stands last in the group of four, while in Acts, his place is vacant.)

Like all of the others, Judas Iscariot received power to cast out demons and heal diseases.

(Matt. 10:1, Mark 6:13, Luke 9:1-6. One writer conjectures that the enthusiast who said, "I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest", (Luke 9:57) was Judas. In connection with their being called to discipleship, we may ask, "Why was such a man as we have been taught to believe Judas Iscariot to be, chosen for a disciple?"

John told us that Jesus "knew all men".

What Jesus said of Peter about the same time that he said this about Judas Iscariot. John 6:70.

The company of disciples began to have funds, and Judas carried the bag.

Verses 27-28. Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spake this unto him, when Jesus said to him, "That thou doest, do quickly". None of the disciples suspected Judas of being dishonest, even at the last moment when this command was given.
