the working out of a problem. Moses was on the Mount forty days, communing with God, getting the law.

Ex. 24: 18

In the law of Moses it is said of the wicked man that he must be given forty stripes, no more. It means complete redemption from that condition. The Israelites wandered forty years in the wilderness, until all the generations that had done evil in the sight of the Lord had been consumed, until that condition had been finished.

Saul and David and Solomon each reigned forty years.

Paul says, "Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one." II Cor. 11:24.

Jesus was seen forty days after his resurrection before his ascension. Acts 1:3.

In these instances, and many more, we plainly see the significance of the number. Jesus had a problem to work out in the forty days.

Mark 1: 13

Angels ministered to him, waited upon him, during his fast of forty days.

Jesus gained the realization, I am the son of God.

"Thou shalt not Tempt the Lord thy God." Deut. 6:16.
