MALACHI.. - p. 282

Malachi, "Angel or Messengers."

Malachi was the last one of the prophets, and was contemporary with Nehemiah. He prophesied B. C. 420. It is believed that he lived after the death of Ezra and the second immigration of captives, since the abuses noted in the book are exactly those which Nehemiah reformed. His book closes the writings until the new testimony of the Messiah and his work is recorded.

Malachi reproves the profanity of the priests and foretells the sudden appearance of the Messiah to purify the temple and its congregation. His writings are quoted as Scripture in the New Testament in Mark 1:2 and 9:11, Luke 1:17, Rom. 9:13. He reproves the ingratitude of Israel.
