our mother Eve; she first merely listened, gave heed to the voice of desire, the tempter; next, she is led to look upon the "forbidden fruit" with desire in her heart; then she sees its beauty, believes in its power to give satisfaction and pleasure; third, and last, she takes and eats.

Where and when did this occur? Here and now within us! Not conscious of our fulness, we desire, then we look at the beauty of God manifested in the visible, we mistake it for the Source of goodness when it is only a result. Whence has that beauty and goodness originated? For to that same source must we go, else the supply will soon fail. The external is not a source of anything; it is a result, an effect of an inner Cause. The inner is inexhaustible; it is the source of supply to every external thing. To that Limitless Source we must turn wholly and see its fulness omnipresent, if we wish to feel no more the "famine in Canaan." It fills every longing of soul and body with satisfaction.
