innocence. The fully developed body well supplied apparently from the earth, with every sense gratified is a step to something beyond. Within are the soul qualities struggling for birth and that birth is understanding. By the inbreathing man becomes conscious of his soul, but faintly conscious at first.

Matt. 13: 25

The first "three days" stand for soul unfoldment and the second "three days" stand for the understanding of that enfoldment. The tree of the knowledge of good and evil is the light and the darkness that attend upon the way in enfoldment. Up to the day of understanding, the soul has no temptation to form opinions, to handle what it does not understand. While understanding is still young --- undeveloped--there is a strong temptation to express opinions, but Wisdom says, "Thou shalt not." Parable of wheat and tares.

The soul unfolded to its consciousness of form, or body, is the Garden of Eden; the place of being without understanding. The "living soul," created and put into the garden to dress it, is the enfoldment of individual consciousness to the place of understanding. The soul begins to see its responsibility and to assume care of the body. Man here enters the age of reason, begins to comprehend cause and effect. Soul is recognized as the essential nature; but in the process of unfoldment into consciousness of Truth body is sub-ordinated
