Elijah saw the law; if Elisha had the open vision, the spiritual understanding of Elijah's transformation, it would prove that he was one with Elijah in realization, and his desire would be fulfilled. Jesus gave practically the same teaching to the mother who asked that her sons might sit next him in the kingdom. Paul gave the same lesson in Rom. 8:11.

And it came to pass as Elijah and Elisha talked,, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. And Elisha saw it!

The writers of the Bible express their deepest experiences in symbols. Chariots and horses denote the Presence of Omnipotence.

Rebuke given (cursed --- rejected) to those not on so high a plane by your higher understanding.
