Chorus
Blessed is the person who can live his last moments free of pain.
When the earth shakes and seas pour onto the land, who can escape the divine wrath?
It is like the marriage bed. First the sheets of water retreat, revealing the bed beneath. Then the ocean rolls forth with dramatic passion, the climax of water higher than ever before destroying all innocence within its embrace.
Can a boy or girl run fast enough to escape the mighty Tsunami of fate?
Can we outrun ourselves or even our own shadow?
Can the children of incest escape the mortal coil within their blood?
Can you outrun your own heritage?
Now the sun sets on the last siblings and children of Oedipus.
Will they be covered in the sacred ochre?
Will they receive the rites of the dead?
Or will the living King defy the eternal laws?
We are all within the eternal flow of the divine,
but how can we know this flow, if we deny it?
Are we to only know the truth within our dreams?
Sleep subdues all resistance to the truth.
Waking we enter into the stream of thought, only with meditation can we slow their onslaught.
The nobility secure their prosperity through responsibility:
Noblesse Oblige.
Elite responsibility for the masses.
We cannot be secure within our homes if our neighbors cannot find security within theirs.
We cannot be assured of our rights if we will not stand in surety to secure these same rights for those with whom we disagree.
If we laugh at the misfortune of others, how long will it be before someone is laughing at us?
If we only value ourselves and do not treasure our community, how can we hope to secure our prosperity.
Inequality begets insecurity and only through equal application of the laws can we hope to achieve prosperity for all.
Hope is simply a delusion for within hope we find the seeds of fear.
We must be steady in faith, knowing the truth and giving thanks for it.
The firewalker is unburned by the fire, just as those who believe cannot be defeated.
How can we judge the heart by the color of one's cloak
or the mind by the type of hat upon the head?
To rule properly is to temper judgment with mercy,
but to obtain mercy we must have remorse,
what can end the cycle of violence if not forgiveness?
Here comes Haemon, the youngest and brightest of Creon's sons grieving.
Antigone is marched to her death.
Her demise deprives him of the life of his love.
The love of his life
She is his betrothed.
