lived taught the necessity of such faith. Faith has its seed-time and its harvest. Mental treatment repudiates doubt and fear and in their place builds up hope, courage and conviction, expectance and receptivity. The treatment takes place immediately in the thought of the one giving it. Our work begins and ends in our own mind.

It is not our spirit that needs to be made whole; it is our mental reactions to life that need healing. These mental reactions are both conscious and subjective. Successful mental treatment must neutralize negative reactions on both the conscious and the subjective planes. Proper teaching does this for the conscious mind, and proper mental treatment will do it on the subjective side of thought.

Mental healing is accomplished not through a coercion of the consciousness, but through its illumination. We would be neither sick nor unhappy if we were consciously and subjectively unified with good. The practitioner systematically attacks any thought that denies the good of the patient. This is a direct and specific act. And yet the power operative through this act is infinitely greater than the thought of the practitioner. We are using a universal law.

There is a subtle element here --- that of knowing the truth and then letting go so that the truth may demonstrate itself. Perhaps this is one of the most difficult things to understand in spiritual work. Our thought is
