The first leading idea in this Psalm is depression. The writer attributes this to God's anger (verse 10), but this is from the merely superficial point of view.” Fury is not in me” (Isa, XXVII: 4). God being unchangeable cannot he angry. It is an appearance resulting from a wrong mental attitude on our part. For this reason, the writer finds his confidence in the fact that God endures for ever (verse 12), i.e., is unchangeable Law or Principle as in Isa. L: 10 where we are told to rely on the un-changeable Law and not on variable feelings, Thus the second leading idea is that of God as Unchanging Principle. The third leading idea is that of Building (verse13 and 16). The fourth idea is that of Measurement by fixed periods (verse 13). The fifth idea is that of LIBERTY (verse 20) as in Luke IV: 18. All this results from declaring the Name (verse 21) and the intention to serve the Lord (verse 22), which means concurrence with the Movement of Whole-Spirit. The gift of this Psalm is therefore the strength that results from reliance upon recognized Principle, and the Measurements of fixed Periods for events.
