who know what is meant by “the king” this gives the key to the whole.
We should note that “the King” is primarily just like other men (verse 7) for they are “his fellows,” but by “following on to know the Lord” he has at last risen even to the Royal Dignity (verses 2, 4, 7).
This at once explains the preponderance of the female element in the latter part of the Psalm. But first we have “the sword” (verse 3) worn by “the king” and his “riding” in Majesty (verse 4). These two are essential. And they are the result (because of) Truth, Meekness, and Right Desire (verse 4). This is all in strict accordance with the Teaching. Perhaps verse 8 indicates the conquest over Death. From verse 9 to end, we have the Female element. “The Queen” as the female to “the King” seems to indicate the One Supreme Intuition of the Unity without which none of the others could be. The others are “the honourable women” who are “King’s daughters,” surrounding “the Queen” and dependent on her. “The Queen” is at the King’s right hand and stands, while “the King” sits (verse 6; thy Throne). Then (verse 10) we come to other daughters, who are not royal = the Lower perceptions. The daughter of Tyre (the great trading city) points to power in Rota and to scientific discovery. “The King’s daughter”
(verse 13) we may suppose is the child of “the King” and “the Queen,” which would be Truth
