[One theme in Shakespeare studies has been that the works were written by someone else. In 2011, the movie Anonymous dramatised the belief that it was Edward De Vere, Earl of Oxford who scribed the works of Shakespeare. Rationales for these beliefs include the argument that "the average prole does not have sufficient knowledge or the education to use this knowledge in order to pen such works." In the 19th Century, the first noble candidate put forth as "true author" of the works of Shakespeare was Francis Bacon. Academics eager to capitalze on a new "breakthrough" pioneered 'conflation' techniques later popularised in the book The Bible Code. The Bacon theory was explored and lampooned in the 1981 action movie The Amateur. The question that readers should answer is: "If Shakespeare's plays were written by an elite / nobleman, is this an argument for, or against, public schools and universal access to University education?"]

A good deal, we suppose, when we meet with such a statement as this, or its Old Testament equivalent, "the Name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous runneth into it and is safe"

But we have already found that the Great Name of the Old Testament is something very different from a merely personal appellation, and the same is true of the Great name of the New Testament also. It is, indeed, the name of that Prophet of the I AM whom Moses predicted as completing the work which he had begun; but precisely because he is the Representative Man of all ages, his Name must represent all that constitutes Perfected Humanity.

And it is so with a Divine simplicity. It is the combination of the earthly name with the heavenly: Jesus, at the time a very common name among the Jews, and Christ, which is not a name but a description, "the Anointed One". Each name is the proper complement of the other, and together they indicate the sublime truth that the anointing of the Divine Spirit is the birthright of every human being, only awaiting our recognition of our true nature to show Itself with power.
