Swedenborg came upon the scene about 150 years after Luther sought to support the Roman Catholic Church to make necessary internal changes in order to amend ongoing corruption. Luther's protest fell upon deaf ears resulting in the second major Christian split, since the Roman Catholic church broke away from the original leadership centered in Constantinople. Swedenborg's father was a major figure in Swedish king, Charles XI court until he was accused of heresy because the hymns he wrote were regarded as encouraging people to do take positive progressive action on behalf of the less fortunate. Emanuel Swedenborg was deeply influenced by his father's theology which included that angels and spirits permeated all aspects of life.
