13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
14 Because he bath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.
16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.
The Emperor of Russia’s Psalm.
Note that all the blessings are for those who habitually dwell in God’s presence (verses 1 and 9) —also because of setting our love, and therefore our hope, upon the Living God. The Knowledge of the Truth concerning God is the basis of all this (verses 4 and 14). And the final result is to deliver us from all fear (verses 5—15). “God bath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” (11 Tim. 1: 7). The same abiding and dwelling, i.e., having our home in God as in Ps. XV.
“My God,” it is the Personal Indwelling God that we thus use as the Basis of Life and the Centre of Conscious Activity, and also of Conscious Rest (verses 2 and 9). Note the sequence of Cause and Effect in verses 9 and 14.
