the teaching of Christ. “Judge me by Thy strength “— compare my weakness with Thy strength and help me accordingly (verse 4). “With them,” etc. — seems to refer to the communion of saints. “Freely sacrifice” (verse 6), i.e., after being set at liberty by God. God delivers, not out of some trouble, but out of all (verse 7). If we put our trust in God (verse 1) He will credit us with the strength of His own will and knowledge. Setting God before us (verse 3), i.e., constantly contemplating Him in all things, we become conformed to His imagination (verse 5). The effect of Truth is to cut off evil. See Ps. XVI: 8.
Psalm 55
GIVE ear to my prayer, O God; and hide not thyself from my supplication.
2 Attend unto me, and hear me: I mourn in my complaint, and make a noise;
3 Because of the voice of the enemy, because of the oppression of the wicked: for they cast iniquity upon me, and in wrath they hate me.
4 My heart is sore pained within me: and the terrors of death are fallen upon me.
5 Fearfulness and trembling are come upon me, and horror hath overwhelmed me.
