13 Be pleased, O Lord, to deliver me: O Lord, make haste to help me.

14 Let them be ashamed and confounded together that seek after my soul to destroy it; let them be driven backward and put to shame that wish me evil.

15 Let them be desolate for a reward of their shame that say unto me, Aha, aha.

16 Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: let such as love thy salvation say continually, The Lord be magnified.

17 But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God.

The consciousness of sin prevents us from looking up (verse 12), i.e., looking to God in confidence. But the Lord Himself delivers us from it (verse 13). Cf. Ps. XLI: 4. The same joyousness of the Spirit (verse 16) as in Ps. XXXV: 9, XLIII: 4, and LI: 8.
Love and Truth again coupled together (verses 10, 11) as in Ps. XXVI: 3. They are the Two Bonds, the Two Ruling Principles, which become Personal in God. All our calculations may be based on the certainty of the joint action of these two principles in God, with the result that a third Ruling Power will arise in our hearts, viz., Peace.
God’s mercies to us are both numerous and marvelous
