"New Thought Holidays
demonstrate that New Thought has matured as a Spiritual Path.
New Thought Day was announced by INTA President James Edgerton on August 23rd, 1914.
This is the oldest New Thought Celebration. In Unification of the 100th anniversary of the original New Thought Day, five (5) additional New Thought holidays were announced at the 2014 Canadian New Thought Conference. While the name New Thought was first capitalized in the 19th Century, New Thought existed in advance of this capitlization and was quite often called 'the new thought'.

What is the Divine Energy which is at the root of the universe?
Physicists call this Vacuum Energy because it exists in the space between things throughout the universe. There is more space in the universe than matter occupying space. This space is between atoms within atoms. The typical distance between atoms within a solid mass such is about the same as the size of the atoms themselves. These atoms may align themselves in lattices which are regular repeated three-dimensional arrangements of atoms, ions, or molecules in metals or other crystalline solids. On earth, in gases at room temperature and normal pressure the distance between molecules is many times their size. In deep space densities can be as low as one proton per cubic centimetre! There is also space within the atoms themselve. A hydrogen atom is about 99.9999999999996% empty space.
The name we give this Energy can never fully define it, but it does define the namer. A person using words that give a gender to the Divine are simply defining their own concept. Perhaps the term: Great Spirit, Universal Spirit or Holy Spirit might be more accurate than God or Goddess.
Seekers should observe what a particular Spiritual community calls the Divine. If someone uses "Love" as the name of the Divine, this is much healthier than if they name the Divine: "Dominator." Seekers should also look at what a community or culture calls their Spiritual Path and what that name means generally and to that group. If a group calls themselves "spiritual warriors," do not be surprised if that group's behavior is characterized by violence. A group that calls themselves "Missionaries of Charity" would be expected to be compassionate souls nurturing others and they are. Missionaries of Charity is the organization founded by Mother Teresa and they do wonderful work in many lands. It is important to be aware. Without awareness, there is no real consciousness. This is why it is important to be observant and aware. Look around you! What do you see? "Let those who have eyes see, and those those who have ears hear." This about observation and comprehension.
It can be observed that some belief systems are not empowering. Sometimes this is due to decadence which means that a religion has strayed from its original message. Generally such decay is due to the fact that certain groups are using the belief system to gain power over others. We can observe this in cultures which do not abide by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) in order to maintain power and control over women & children. An aware, observant soul can see the relation between beings and events. What do you see? When you look around do you see any situations in which people are using religions to abuse others, or rationalize the deprivation of their human rights?
Cultures, countries and communities that deny the international law embodied by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights often seek to justify this through decadent interpretations of old religions. It is incumbent upon those who are aware of the UDHR to remind others that these nations or groups of people are denying human rights to their citizens. If a country has laws preventing its citizens from marrying other people who have a different religion, then that country is a human rights violator and is probably in the grips of a decadent interpretation of an old religion. If a country only allows its citizens to practice one religion, then it is deeply in the grips of decadence.
The closest we come to understanding the Universal Energy is through mathematics and physics such as the Theory of Relativity. It is not incumbent upon regular folks to understand the complexities of universal energy. It is sufficient to know that there is an energy greater than each of us within the Universe and we can use it.
When the universe exploded outward from the initial singularity, the unfolding of this energy resulted in an ongoing process of spiritual evolution which eventually led to life as we recognize it to day. Each person is endowed with inalienable rights; these rights are embodied within the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
